The national flag of the People's Republic of China is the symbol and symbol of the People's Republic of China. Every citizen and organization shall respect and care for the National Flag.

On June 16, 1949, the Preparatory Committee for the New Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) decided to set up a committee for the selection of the national flag and national emblem patterns, and published a request on the People's Daily and other newspapers from July 14 to August 15 of the same year. During the first plenary session of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference in September 1949, the primary committee selected 38 of the 3,012 patterns it had received and printed them to all delegates for discussion. On the evening of September 25, Chairman Mao Zedong held a consultation forum on the national flag, national emblem, national anthem, calendar and capital after group discussion of all the representatives. On the question of the national flag, Chairman Mao Zedong pointed out that the design of the five-star red flag represents the great unity of the revolutionary people and will continue to do so in the future. Therefore, whether it is now or in the future, it is also unity and revolution. Chairman Mao Zedong's speech was greeted with warm applause.

On September 27th, 1949, delegates to the First Plenary Session of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) approved the proposal to adopt the Five-Starred Red Flag as the national flag.
